“Making art to dig deep, seek harmony and grow in freedom” is what Joshua John aims at with his creative practice. In the last two decades, he has explored various styles with acrylic on canvas to navigate his inner journey. A self-trained artist, Joshua approaches painting as a sustained visual prayer, a spiritual wrestling, a sacred act of listening and creating from a place of play and vulnerability.
Following up from his last solo show titled ‘The Thorn, the Needle & the Nail’ in 2017, besides numerous commission projects, Joshua has been working on the ‘Burning Boat’ series. It probes whether our imperfections and losses awaken a desire to allow tools of grace to work in us? Are the senseless matters meant to help resolve life’s greater mysteries? Do tragedies dare us to attempt the impossible? Do we ever arrive anywhere other than into another waiting room? He hopes to present this series by 2022.
Joshua John lives and paints in New Delhi, India. He has held a dozen group shows and five solo exhibitions. His paintings have found collectors in over a dozen countries besides India. When not working in his studio, he leads motorcycle tours in India and Nepal with https://www.twowheeledexpeditions.comTwo Wheeled Expeditions.
